We have known Umbria for about twenty years, and we can state with certainty that it is a splendid land, all beautiful and all to be discovered.
But the real aces poker among all the Umbrian wonders is won for us by Castelluccio di Norcia.
We were impressed the first time we saw it and every time we return, the emotion does not change.
You can find plenty of information about Castelluccio on the internet, so we certainly won’t waste time describing it.
We would just like to tell you that it is not only beautiful when it is in bloom between June and July, Castelluccio is beautiful all the time, in all seasons; we would love to meet you even when the little flowers have disappeared and we would be even happier to know that its people can welcome you for the rest of the year. It is a place for meditation, not for the summer throngs of hit-and-run tourists taking selfies so they can tell their friends ‘I was there’. So draw a card from the deck and let’s hope Lady Luck kisses you… if you’re lucky it might be an ace. The first ace you find will tell you your lucky season.

The days are long, you will also have time to taste local products, such as the famous Norcia ham, ciauscolo the traditional salami and lentils.

Although summer is long gone, the mild temperatures still provide pleasant days. When autumn arrives, the plateau is dressed in warm golden, orange and red hues. The surrounding hills and forests offer a breathtaking spectacle. Now is the right time to take beautiful photos.
Winter – Ace of Spades: Elegance
Winter transforms Castelluccio di Norcia into a fairytale landscape. Snow covers the plateau and the surrounding mountains, creating a magical, silent atmosphere – an experience of pure elegance and serenity. After a day in the snow, treat yourself to a relaxing moment in front of the fireplace, enjoying a good red wine and the flavours of local products.
A word of advice: if you are passing through Castelluccio, stop off in Norcia, it is on the way and a few tastings in one of the norcinerie in this beautiful town could brighten the climb to the plateau.
